In celebration of Xpace Cultural Centre’s 10-year anniversary, we participate in a conversation about the origins of Xpace. Join us as we discuss how and why Xpace was created, as well as look back at Xpace’s first year.
Moderated by Xpace Director Amber Landgraff, the discussion features Creative Blueprint founder Ashley Proctor.

Xpace Cultural Centre is a membership driven artist-run centre supported by the OCAD Student Union and dedicated to providing emerging and student artists with the opportunity to showcase their work in a professional setting. Xpace programs contemporary practices that respond to the interests and needs of our membership, and to contemporary issues in theory and aesthetics, keeping an up to the minute response to what is going on directly in our community.

The founders of Xpace recognized that there was a gap in professional exhibition opportunities available to student and emerging artists. Xpace was created in order to fill that gap by providing exhibition opportunities, the possibility of project fees and critical feedback for these artists. Many institutions and funding bodies do not recognize students and emerging artists as professionals, which makes it incredibly difficult to have the opportunity to show and/or fund their practice. 10 years after it’s inception, Xpace still plays an integral role in providing these opportunities, which are crucial for the development of a professional practice, in order to fill that gap.
